Junkie XL is set to Compose the Score for Robert Rodriguez’s upcoming blockbuster, Alita Battle Angel.
Robert Rodriguez’s Alita Battle Angel is edging its way closer to its February 2019 release, and now it has officially been confirmed that Dutch composer Antonius Tom Holkenborg, better known as Junkie XL, will be working on the film’s soundtrack.
Holkenborg confirmed this exciting movie news on his official Twitter account, stating he would be scoring Alita Battle Angel. The music producer tweeted a poster for Alita Battle Angel, revealing his excitement about working with Robert Rodriguez and James Cameron, who he refers to as two of his “cinematic heroes” in the post’s thread. He then goes on to call the movie a “visionary project,” and that both Robert Rodriguez and James Cameron themselves pushed the envelope, encouraging him to do the same with his score. He wrote: “Friends, I’m excited to officially announce that I am finishing up the original score to the upcoming adventure film Alita Battle Angel – directed by Robert Rodriguez and produced by James Cameron.”
Junkie XL is best known for his remix of Elvis Presley‘s ‘A Little Less Conversation’ which became a worldwide hit in 2002, and has been prolific with movie soundtracks throughout his career. Some of the most recent works of Junkie XL are linked to major blockbusters such as of Mad Max: Fury Road, Deadpool, and Batman Vs Superman: Dawn of Justice.
Alita Battle Angel is a sci-fi adventure based on the manga series from Yukito Kishiro following the titular character Alita (Rosa Salazar), a human-like cyborg, as she sets herself on a journey to discover who she is, where she came from, and what her role is in saving the world. The film was adapted by James Cameron (Avatar) and Laeta Kalogridis (Shutter Island), and features state-of-the-art photorealistic CGI. It also stars Jennifer Connelly, Michelle Rodriguez, Mahershala Ali, and Christoph Waltz.
With a strong background in composing scores for video games (his earliest project being Forza Motorsport in 2005) – Holkenborg broke out as a film composer when he worked on three major movies in 2014: 300: Rise of an Empire, Divergent, and The Amazing Spider-Man 2. His work on Mad Max: Fury Road and Batman Vs Superman: Dawn of Justice are perhaps the scores he’s most recognized for, and there are ample movie news reports that he is also a favorite to be the composer of the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog movie.
