Boba Fett’s much-hoped-for spinoff movie has been 100% canned, while all Disney’s Star Wars efforts are put towards The Mandalorian TV series.
Boba Fett is officially no longer getting his own flim, and will have to spend a bit more time digesting in the belly of the almighty Sarlacc, it seems.
A standalone film about everyone’s favorite galactic bounty hunter had been rumored for years, even before it emerged in May this year that Disney and Lucasfilm had been developing another standalone feature – one with Boba Fett as the main protagonist, and all proceeding under Logan director James Mangold, who had come on board after Josh Trank (Fantastic Four) had left the project.
Even though this developing film was never officially announced, it was well rumored that things were moving along. Sadly though, it has now been confirmed that this highly anticipated Boba Fett spinoff project will never, ever happen.
A journalist for Sirius FM named Erick Weber claims he had a conversation with Kathleen Kenedy (Lucasfilm President) at a recent Black Panther Oscar event, then posted this tweet…
Kathleen Kennedy just confirmed to me Boba Fett movie is 100% dead, 100% focusing on THE MANDALORIAN #StarWars

The Mandalorian, the project which is getting Disney’s “100% focus” is the new100 million-dollar mega-series (same budget amount as HBO’s Game of Thrones), and will run on Disney’s upcoming streaming service, Disney Play. It is set to launch in 2019.
The new series, with John Favreau as showrunner, is currently filming, and takes place between the events of 1983′s Return of the Jedi and 2015′s The Force Awakens, and will feature some high-profile names to direct each episode, including Bryce Dallas Howard and Taika Waititi.
We’ll keep you posted on all Star Wars news of note as it happens.
