John Wick: Parabellum is not set to hit theatres until April 2019, but substantial hype is already starting to grow around the film – and it’s getting just a little exciting.
Keanu Reeves starring as the noted assassin with a heart, John Wick – also known to his enemies as ‘Baba Yaga the Boogeyman’ – is the face of the Wick franchise, now one of Hollywood’s most brutally exciting action extravaganzas, and if the hype has any truth to it, it’s only going to get much, much better.
Empire just released footage of Reeves via tweet, then via article, doing what John Wick does – but this time ON A HORSE. Yes, ON A HORSE.
Check it out…

Wick loves animals, with much of the first film focusing on him getting revenge on the gangsters who killed his dog, and then more dog action featuring in the second installment too, so it’s only a natural progression for him to upgrade.
It seems director Chad Stahelski is quite chuffed about Wick embracing the whole animal thing on a new level, and had this to say to Empire…
“horses, dogs, cats, a raven, a bunch of pigeons, a motorcycle chase, car chase, Halle Berry, Laurence Fishburne, Ian McShane, Lance Reddick, shotguns and ninjas”.
So not only will John Wick 3 feature an ark-load worth of animals, it will once again have a stellar cast – but this time with NINJA’S.
Excited yet? You’d have to be.
New John Wick info is now leaking daily, and it creates a giant stir on the internet each time. To say this film is highly anticipated would be an exceptionally vast understatement. Yet, if you’ve missed anything and want to get up to date on all things Wick, let’s have a very brief look at a few integral snippets/dot points of info we know about this film so far…
The official synopsis is kick-ass.
“John Wick is still on the run following his killing of a High Table member inside The Continental, and with a $14 million global contract out on his life. Banned from any company services, John must fight and kill his way out of New York.”
Yay, just Yay. That is one short, sharp synopsis – but man does it have some kick.
The Film is going to examine a good portion of John’s past.
Very little about Wick’s past is known, outside of passing comments from his fellow killers. We’ve heard about the “impossible task” that he managed to complete for mob kingpin Viggo Tarasov, but the only thing we really know is that it involved a lot of Viggo’s competitors being taken out. While we may never get to see the brutal details of Wick’s impossible task onscreen, Stahelski has confirmed that John Wick 3 will shed some light on how he became one of the world’s most remarkable assassins.
“We’re going to put in something about where John comes from, and where he wants to go,” the director told The Independent. “In the third one, we’ll be able to show what he’s like as the predator, what he would have been like before the first one.” For those that simply can’t wait until the second sequel drops, the John Wick comics are a great head start. They begin long before the events of the movies in a time when Wick is still studying the Book of Rules (the text that guides their lethal business) and mastering the art of the kill.”
It’s most probably the final John Wick movie.
John Wick 3 will probably be the last movie that will focus solely on Wick himself, at least as far as the filmmakers are concerned. Asked by The Independent if he saw the third chapter as the last one, Chad Stahelski answered: “In our minds, yes. But I’ll let the studio answer those sort of questions… I don’t want to say too much more, but it will be a nice completion to Mr. Wick’s journey.” The fact that the director ultimately left the decision up to the studio suggests that there’s a slight chance Reeves could return in a fourth film, but it seems they plan on going on without him.
Reeves is also a notoriously hard man to convince about doing sequels. He does them, but with lots of prolonged arm-twisting. It took producers years, and even decades, to get him to play along on the Matrix and Bill and Ted sequels.
The John Wick universe is going to TV.
The chances of sequel to John Wick 3 are seriously diminishing, but this doesn’t mean that Keanu won’t ever play the famed killer again. In January 2018, Starz (owned by John Wick studio Lionsgate) confirmed that it was developing The Continental, a TV series based on the hotel that Wick and all his assassin buddies frequent. The network announced the news at the Television Critics Association’s winter press tour (via The Hollywood Reporter), revealing that Reeves would not be the star of the show but would still reprise the role for the odd appearance.
A knife fight was filmed for John Wick 3 in Grand Central Station.
Footage obtained by Hollywood Pipeline shows the filming of a knife fight with Mark Dacascos (presumably another assassin out for blood) in the middle of Grand Central Station. Close-ups of the scene reveal that John has a cover over his ring finger, which suggests that he’s going to lose a digit.
Halle Berry’s character ‘Sophia’ will tell us even more about John’s past.
It seems more than likely that Sofia is a former peer from the assassin game. Keanu Reeves shed some light on Halle Berry’s character when he talked with Coming Soon.
“John Wick is fighting for his life and thinks that Halle Berry’s character has some information for him,” Reeves revealed. “They have a past, and they get involved with The High Table, this kind of overlording entity.”
Of course, there are numerous other smaller details about John Wick 3, but we thought those above were the most pertinent.
We’ll continue to keep you posted on everything Wick as it happens.
