Mad Men star Jon Hamm is ready to take things to the next level if DC Comics come calling.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Hamm (48) was asked about his previous comments regarding theoretically taking on the Batman role. As he revealed, he is happy to see his name even suggested, considering how much of a fan he is of the character.
“My God, yeah, it’s fun,” Hamm explained. “That’s a part of the culture we live in, and we’re making those movies more and more, but they’re also making more creatively and more originally. And sure, it’s always an exciting thing to have your name in the list, so that’s great.”
While speaking with IGN about his new role in Bad Times at El Royale, the actor finally addressed the rumors about Batman by revealing what comic book runs he loves most.
“I like the Dark Knight stories, the Frank Miller limited series that they had back in the 80s,” Hamm revealed.
Previous rumors suggested that Hamm wanted to ‘steal’ the Batman role from Ben Affleck which led fans to push for Hamm to take the iconic part of Batman; but as Hamm revealed in an interview earlier this month, he hasn’t been attached to the role in any official context.
“It depends on the script, what the story is,” Hamm revealed. “I am a huge comic book fan, always have been. I have read comic books since I was nine or younger. And I am pretty knowledgeable about a lot of them. And I like the genre, and I like when they are done well.”
Hamm is ready to take on the role in the right context, even if it involves a bit of extra work, as he recently stated that he was suited for the position if it came along, “I’d have to work out a lot, which I don’t love. But if they wanted to tap me on the shoulder and ask me to do it: why not?” he added.
Just yesterday Ben Affleck was seen heading into Warner Bros with a script in his hand, going for a meeting with studio execs – so Hamm shouldn’t get his hopes too high.
Also, recent reports also indicate that director Matt Reeves has his heart set on Jake Gyllenhaal taking over the mantle of the caped crusader.
Whether or not Hamm would consider swapping ideal superheroes altogether, to play a more mature Superman, has also been heavily speculated about on the internet. Currently the spot is fully vacant, and he might be much better served chasing The Man of Steel rather than The Dark Knight.
