The Punisher: Season 2 has finished filming

The Punisher Jon Bernthal

The second season of The Punisher has just finished filming.

The second installment of Netflix/Marvel’s The Punisher is undoubtedly the most heavily anticipated offering of all the made-for-TV Marvel superhero ventures, and it just wrapped after almost six months of filming.

The Punisher follows Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal) – the ultimate vigilante and ex-special forces black ops soldier; who after the murder of his family, goes on the mother of all revenge missions, taking out anyone and everyone who had anything to do with the death of his wife and children.

The lure of ‘Punisher’ is that he has no superpowers like his Marvel cohorts from The Defenders. He is just a straight-up badass. This makes him an extreme fan favorite, and also makes for viewing that is definitely not for kids. He shows his enemies no mercy, exterminating them like rats. In turn, one could compare him to Charles Bronson in Deathwish – but he makes Charlie look like a harmless school kid. No one messes with Frank Castle and lives. No one.

The new Punisher was introduced in season two of Netflix’s first Marvel Superhero venture Daredevil. Throughout this season Castle was both an enemy and ally to Daredevil, although they clashed heavily on their differing methods of catching (killing) the bad guys. After fans got a taste of Bernthal as The Punisher, and his popularity soared, it was a no-brainer that he’d get his own show. The first season was met with solid praise after being released in November 2017. The second season was subsequently greenlit a month later due to season one’s huge success.

Further revealed/confirmed in an Instagram post by Punisher cast-member Jason R. Moore, shooting has wrapped. Moore plays the character Curtis Hoyle who was an army buddy to Castle in the first season. From left to right: Moore, director Jeremy Webb, and Jon Bernthal…

There has been no leak or synopsis regarding the plot of season two, and fan speculation abounds. The Punisher is of course founded from the Marvel comic of the same name. Frank Castle made his first appearance in The Amazing Spider-Man #129 (cover-dated Feb. 1974), so it is anyone’s guess what this new season will entail? There’s lots to pull from. All we know is that it will be bloody.

The biggest tip fans have gotten in regards to what Frank will be facing in the new season came out when on-set videos and images were posted online of Ben Barnes and Jon Bernthal, indicating that Castle has unfinished business with Billy Russo, now undoubtedly taking on the mantle of ‘Jigsaw’ after the Punisher disfigured him severely in season one.
Jigsaw was formerly one of Castle’s black ops ‘brothers’ and betrayed him entirely, implicating himself in the Castle family’s death. He was also a strong addition to the cast and an incredibly multi-layered bad guy.

Hopefully, before season two airs, we also get to see just a little more of Mr Castle in Iron Fist season two (September 7th, 2018) and Daredevil season three (early 2019).
Excited? We are!

The Punisher season 2 is scheduled for release on Netflix in mid to late 2019.
