We can’t say we are incredibly excited about a Top Gun sequel being made. But…if you are, here’s the news…
Top Gun producers are keeping things exceptionally tight. No real facts, no pics, no nothing – just a few appearances and hints from Cruise and his castmates, creating a little hype a year in advance of the film’s release. Yet, with all this secrecy, some small details have come through.
Tom Cruise is set to reprise his role as Maverick, and as a consequence, the film is titled Top Gun: Maverick, and is the unawaited sequel to the first 1980s cheesy, over-dramatic blockbuster Top Gun.
The film is to be shot on an airbase in San Diego, California.
Cruise is starring alongside Top Gun veteran Val Kilmer; once again playing ‘Iceman.’ (Who will be ‘wingman’ this time?).
Miles Teller has been cast as Goose’s son (Goose Jnr?), while Goose (who met his demise during the original Top Gun) actor Anthony Edwards has yet to be confirmed for an appearance as a potential spirit-Goose.
Does anyone really care? No. Well, we don’t anyway.
There’s no reports of Meg Ryan, Tom Skerrit, Kelly McGillis making appearances. Nor is there any news of a Kenny Loggins re-donning a mullet and purple shirt to record the soundtrack (though we haven’t even checked the records to see if these people are all still alive. (Sorry, this movie just feels like a giant cash-grab, and no matter how hard we try, we just can’t get amped about it).
Top Gun: Maverick is scheduled for release on July 12, 2019.
